Climbers' support for Tibet and Luis Benitez, "I would spend an extra $10k to work with a company that has corporate compassion"

(MountEverest.net) Since the interview with Luis Benitez, several climbers have mailed in their support for the guide, stating that they have postponed their Everest expeditions in outrage of the current events in Tibet. Here goes one email from a climber who says he'd even be willing to pay extra for a climb with an ethical outfit:

"I just wanted to drop a line in support of Luis. I found it shocking that of 200 people only 1 spoke for the dead and dying. I'm appalled again by Brice, who's ability to see right & wrong must be hindered by dollar signs."

"I only hope a guide service that respects life picks up Benitez and encourages him to continue speaking out for justice. I know that when I plan my Everest trip in the next 3 years I would spend an extra $10k to work with a company that has corporate compassion."

"I think any climber with a heart should boycott the Tibet Everest climb for 1 year. I know the impact on the Sherpa would be tragic but 1 year of toughing it out to prove a point is worth it. I would donate my climbing funds for a year to help them during a boycott. I can climb locally another year and feel great about it!"

"People that make excuses about why they won't, can't & shouldn't are heartless bastards. The money loss to the Dictatorship would be felt and the point made. Standing by allowing these events and turning a blind eye is just as bad as pulling the trigger on a pre-teen nun."

"I want every person paying to climb in that country to know that they paid for the bullets that are killing Tibetans. As we speak the Chinese are imprisoning & killing Tibetans by the bus loads. Tibet has been overrun by Chinese Army regulars to crush the activities of freedom."

"When do we as mountaineers say enough is enough? How many have to die? How many times can we as an industry justify it?"

"We have reached a tipping point before the Olympics. The eyes of the world are on China & Tibet, we should pile on and use this momentum to further the rights of humans."

"What if it was you? What would you want the world to do?"

"Sincerely,
Jason Morton"
