Latok 1 urgent appeal: Oscar Perez stuck above 6500 meters
Posted: Aug 08, 2009 07:38 pm EDT
(ExplorersWeb.com) No news updates will be made at ExWeb Friday through Sunday while we do major maintenance and upgrades on the server.
An urgent appeal has however arrived from Pakistan, where Spanish climber Oscar Perez is stuck above 6500 meters on Latok 1 since three days. Contact was lost with Oscar today; his climbing partner Alvaro Novellon is in base camp with frostbite.
No professional rescuers or high altitude rock climbers are available in Pakistan to rescue the climber. "We therefore request volunteers who can help to rescue Mr. Oscar Perez," wote outfitter Essar Karim, Adventure Tours Pakistan, to ExplorersWeb's Karrar Haidri.
If you are in or around the area and think you could help, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Essar Karim:

Oscar Perez and Alvaro Novellon were attempting the unclimbed Latok Is north face, in alpine style. Should everything go well, well spend about seven or eight days on the wall, they told their home team. That is just an approximate amount of time since no one has climbed the face completely, we have no references.
