Heidi Kloos lost in avalanche before Everest trek

Great technical climber and one of the first women in the U.S. to earn the title of Certified Alpine Guide by the American Mountain Guiding Association, veteran international mountain guide Heidi Kloos, 41, was expected to shortly guide trekkers to Everest BC.
But on Tuesday an avalanche on Colorado's Baldy Peak took her life. Heidi had skied to the remote peak with her cattle dog. According to Telluride Daily Planet she was assesing an ice climb when unseasonably warm temperatures probably caused the north-facing slope to rip and slide. Heidi was buried under 10 feet of snow; her dog stayed with her until a rescue patrol arrived on Thursday.

Fiancé of late climber Dave Bridges, killed in an avalanche in Tibet with Alex Lowe in 1999, according to Telluride Daily Planet Hiedi lost her brother in a 1996 kayaking accident and her father, a longtime ski patroller at Snowmass Mountain, in January this year. A regular guide with MountainTrip, in 2008, Heidi along with MT guide Rob Durnell was the recipients of the Denali National Park Service's Denali Pro Award, for her selfless efforts in assisting the NPs with a difficult rescue in 2007.
