American Julio Bird, member in WRET (World Records Expeditions and Treks, based in Kathmandu), led by Bill Fisher, summited everest from its north side yesterday. He had departed towards the summit with some sherpas after the Tibetan rope-fixing team opened the route to the summit.
“Julio and the Sherpas left Camp 2 and took 14 hours to reach the summit,” home team member Maribel reported yesterday. “They reached the summit on the 17 of May at 7:00 in the morning. He is now resting at Camp 2 and will move to Base Camp soon.”

“A little over 80 people went for the summit today,” RMI team reported from BC yesterday. “News is still coming down from high on the mountain and things are sounding uneventful, which is a good thing!”
Today, further summits have been confirmed.
“Expedition Hanesbrands’ climbing team led by Jamie Clarke successfully summited Mount Everest at 8:40 a.m. Monday, May 17 (10:55 p.m. Sunday EDT),” BC crew stated. “The team returned safely to Camp 4 where they are resting before continuing down the mountain. The summit was made by Jamie (his second summit), Scott Simper (first summit), Kami Sherpa (11th summit), Pemba Dorje Sherpa (seventh summit), and Ang Namgyel Sherpa (fifth summit). “
Colombian Nelson Cardona and Rafael Avila summited 11:15 Nepal time yesterday – things were not easy, as mate (and also summiteer) Albert Bosch reported. “The trip C4-summit-C4 took 22 hours, due to strong wind gusts complicating the ascent,” he told his home team ater finally reaching C4 for the night yesterday. Albert climbed with a sherpa, the two Colombians were accompanied by another.
Brazilian Manoel Morgado also topped-out Everest yesterday. The 8th Brazilian Everest summiteer ever, he is on his way to C3/c2 today.
“Yesterday Wiktor made the summit with Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa,” SummitClimb team reported earlier today. “He's in camp 2 with Karsten, Raj and Josette. Karsten will go for the summit on the 2nd weather window, starting the 22nd of May. Manoj and Adam are down safe in BC.”
As for other descending teams whereabouts:
Australian Patrick Hollingworth also reached safely C4 yesterday.
“There may be more summit pushes tonight by other teams taking in the 18th window,” Peak freaks reported. “Our TEAM 2 climbers are all down at Camp 2 looking at their attempt possibility as early as May 21.”
Jagged-Globe has also reported that their summit team will be staying in Camp 2 tonight, then heading down to Base Camp early tomorrow morning so as to get through the Khumbu Icefall before the sun hits it.
“In Base Camp, Bunter, Mike, Tim and I are preparing to head back up to Camp 2 tomorrow for our own summit bid,” J-G Robert Anderson stated.
