Everest weather window - very low winds predicted

Posted: May 16, 2013 04:27 pm EDT
It looks like the Everest Weather Window with very low winds are coming in earlier this year, which could be a positive side effect of the storm in Bay of Bengal.

Used for decades by veteran Himalaya mountaineers, Meteoexploration and Expedition Weather predict low summit winds in the next 1-2 weeks.

Meteoexploration
May 19 - 30
5 - 10 m/s (10 - 20 mph)

Expedition Weather
May 18 - 23
5 - 10 m/s (10 - 20 mph)

Differing no more than a few days for its arrival, the Everest Weather Window occurs twice a year.
Climbers going up before will have higher winds, although the strong and well acclimatized should manage. For the harder climbs (w/o 02) forecasts predict optimal conditions after May 25.
