dad and me at lime rock park - click on all pictures for full frame view
a big thank-you to my dad, whose idea it was to go together for a 3 day race driving school at lime rock park as a graduation present

in the cockpit
just an RPM indicator (tilted so your rev band is in better view), no need for a speedometer in racing

from the control tower
it's amazing what a Dodge Neon's engine in a lightweight car can do

muno
Muno, one of the drivers this weekend - he was nice enough to even offer over his racing gloves for a few laps. thanks, and if per chance you're ever on this site, shoot me a line and i'll get you an ultra hi-res of this shot.

Bruce, one of our instructors

down-shifting drill
we learned a medley of foot and hand motions to get the car to downshift - they called it 'heel and toe double clutching'. The fall foliage was out in full colors

tightening up the four-point seat belt

on the front stretch

more tightening up the seatbelts

a damp morning
it dumped on the eve of the last day. fortunately the track dried up nice mid-morning

dad catching some sun
a couple breaks in the cloud allowed for some glimpses in the sun. notice the mud on the side of the car - i 'dropped some wheels' on occaison

figuring out the heel and toe thing
they took the bodywork off so we could watch our feet - you had to hit the brake and gas at the same time while downshifting

it just ain't that bad

Rocco in the driver's seat
total concentration

early morning fuel
getting ready for a day's worth of racin'

lapping sessions
on the last day we got to run full-out on the entire track. group two is up on the start/finish line tower spectating

John Murphy
John gave us some great driving tips and scaring the crap out of the older guys as he drove a 15 passenger van at mach 1 around the track, squealing tires and getting it sideways. if you open to the bigger shot, you'll see the Kiiss brothers in the background

Muno getting ready to saddle up

soaking up some of the cockpit puddles
John and Gregg from Long Island trying to soak up the pool of water in the cockpit

helping out
these cars are pretty difficult to get in and out of, Reece is helping is driving partner get locked in.

pit lane
all lined up in pit lane raring to go

open lapping
passing on the front stretch

the crew
14 in all, just driving some race cars for 3 days. pretty nice guys for considering Skip Barber is a breeding ground of Type A personalities. doctors, CEO's, business owners, engineers, and a kid who writes stories about people who climb mountains. If I ever decide on a career change, this is the place to hand out a resume; and meet some nice folks of course. except for the ciache who almost rear-ended me at 50 mph in a botched attempt to pass.
