The doctor is out of the country
- Luanne Freer and some of her staff have arrived in Kathmandu to finalize some last minute plans for the first ever Everest base camp clinic.

Despite the unilateral cease-fire,
Maoists have recently damaged a telecommunications repeater station in Nepal. No one was injured, however.

The North West Passage team is plugging away and glad to have started on their voyage of retracing the North West Passage on skis.  The team reports windy conditions and temperatures of -32 Celsius.

Dominick Arduin is stranded on an ice floe and is waiting for assistance from a service flight.  She is currently en-route to the North Pole and has probably drifted south for about six kilometers with the ice.

Mike Horn is leaving again after 10 days of rest in Pelly Bay heading for the next village Gjoa Haven.  His quest is to circumnavigate the Arctic circle.

The UK's Mount Everest Foundation in association with the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers has planned a number of events in the UK leading up to the 50th anniversary of Everest's first ascent - including a Gala on the same date Hilary and Tenzing summited, May 29th.  Her Majesty the Queen will be in attendance.
