Everest Base Camp clinic - Some members of the Himalayan Rescue Association ran into a trekker this past week who had come down with a case of HAPE/HACE. The team medicated him, administered oxygen, and carried him down to thicker air. In the latest report, the trekker was doing much better and was stable. Ocean Rowing update - Pacific ocean rower Andrew Halsey's last Argos update was on the 17th of March - the life-expectancy of Argos beacon 1 is over and he has yet to activate his second beacon. Atlantic ocean rower Martin Wood has reached Barbados and finished his row - way to go! Meanwhile, Simon Chalk has run into a few snags this past week on the high seas of the Indian Ocean. He discovered a small leak, the steering broke, an oar was smashed, and he had to face a couple of storms to boot. The good news is that he might have found a favorable current and is expecting the winds to be with him by this Wednesday. Everest 2003 hot on the trail - It's go time. Some teams are nearing base camp and others have either arrived in Kathmandu or are just about to board their flights to Nepal. Word has it that there is more snow than usual this year in the region. Also, Scott Woolum's Adventures International team is the first to send back videos from the trek this year. Dominick Arduin North Pole - The French Finn was picked up by a helicopter and has thrown in the towel. Domi had fallen through the ice and with fears of frostbite she decided to call in the cavalry and head home. Babanov Nuptse - Valeri Babanov and his partner Valdimir Suviga have reached 5800 meters on Nuptse so far. Babanov attempted this climb last fall and reached a high point of 6600 meters before poor weather made him abort.
