(Newsdesk) Explorersweb's news section shows K2 climbers have joined the summit pushes previously announced on Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums. Watch this space for updates and the dispatch feeds for reports straight from the expeditions.
Al Hancock reported a tiny weather opportunity and the area is infamous for quick changes in weather patterns. Checking in early morning 23d, he was in C2 at 6200 meters on Broad Peak, looking to move to C3 along with a number of others scattered around 6000 meters. Hancock said climbers expect a major snow drop on the 26th/27h with no climbing possible after that for at least a week due to avalanche risk.
By tradition August has been the summit month on K2, and there have been several summits all the way into September. The record climbs last year had summits on July 26. Hopefully luck will favor the bold attempt but even with failure there will be plenty of opportunity in coming weeks for strong and stubborn climbers.
