The article in Yachting mag had the route wrong, but Nick is psyched about it. "It’s very exciting for my little trip to be noticed by the printed medium," he says. (Click to enlarge).
Nick Jaffe update: Fame and a first crossing

(TheOceans.net) Remember Nick Jaffe, the 26 year old Australian, who departed Holland September 17 to sail aboard his 26ft Constellation back home to Melbourne, Australia but ran out of money in La Coruna?

A contract computer programmer, Nick crawled into his cabin with his laptop, to do some jobs and add to the $14 he had left for the crossing and boat repairs. Since then, things have picked up for the newbie sailor. He's been in the paper, got a bunch of sponsors - and crossed from Portugal to the Canary Islands.

Nick hopes to take the leap across the Atlantic any time now. "Every port I’ve arrived in, I’ve told the locals that I can’t continue, and that I’ll have to ‘winter’. And every time, something crops up that allows me to just move a little bit further," Nick said last.

The next step

As for the Portugal-Canary Island crossing, Nick reports it took 10 days. "All in all it was a very positive trip, and gave me excellent insight into the longer one ahead. The conditions were mostly ideal (only a few days had water over the bow, scuppers awash), but if you told me I had to leave across the Atlantic tomorrow, I probably wouldn’t be very happy…"

"However I know after a rest I will have my gusto back to tackle it."

Intrepid artist and self-confessed geek Nick Jaffe is attempting to sail home to Melbourne, Australia on a small boat. Nick’s journey will culminate in an exhibition of a digital collection and other artwork from his time at sea, in a combination of art, technology, environmentalism and adventure.
