Posted: Jun 26, 2012 02:30 pm EDT (Newsdesk) In July Paul Ridley, Scott Mortensen, Neal Mueller and Collin West will be challenging themselves by rowing the cold Arctic waters non-stop and unsupported from Inuvik, Canada to Providenya, Russia.
“We are landing in Provideniya, Russia as are the terms of customs,” said Scott Mortensen to ExplorersWeb. “However, we are getting a sailing papers approved and will try to touch down on the northeastern tip of Russia before navigating down the coast.”
Over the course of 30 days the team will row about 1,200 miles as they “explore some of the most pristine habitats on Earth”.
Their mission is to raise awareness for the Arctic by “inspiring human powered change in an Arctic region that desperately needs more public awareness and protection”. They will also collect some scientific data.
