Posted: Feb 02, 2016 06:42 pm EST

(Correne Coetzer) With the South Pole ski season coming to an end, Australian Charles Werb is on his way to Antarctic Gateway, Cape Town to sail his snowsailer on the Antarctic Plateau to the Geographic South Pole and possibly return (wind and weather depending).

From Cape Town he will fly with ALCI/TAC to Novolazarevskaya 70° 46’37”S, 011° 49’26”E.

According to his website, the snowsailer will be transported with an accompanying Arctic Trucks vehicle to 400km south from Novo Base to the Plateau. From there he should get favorable winds to sail to the South Pole.

Werb told news sources, his aim is to become the first person to sail a snowsailer on Antarctic, and to reach the South Pole with a snowsailer.

Charles is taking food for 3 weeks.
