In an interview with ExWeb the 28th of November, Polish explorer and journalist Tomasz Grzywaczewski said: "The inspiration for our expedition was the story of the Long Walk, because this is one of the greatest escape stories in world history. But also an astonishing example of one man´s will to survive and desire to be free. Our aim was to show that the real hero of the Great Escape was a Polish man named Witold Glinski. Not Slavomir Rawicz. And to prove that it had happened."

Until his death in 2004, Rawicz managed to avoid most of the critics, by either saying he had forgotten details, blamed the ghostwriter Downing for embellishing the truth or just by ignoring the questions which gathered more strength by the day. But, all along, he maintained that he had done The Long Walk.

Glinski has convinced reporters Hugh Levinson and John Dyson, author Linda Willis, and the young Polish explorer, Tomasz Grzywaczewski. They all say he comes across as very honest, seems extremely credible, and always ready to answer any question or deal with conflicting opinions - even though he has no documentation to back up his story.
